“We’re limiting the number of raffle tickets sold to 2,000,” says Realtor and project coordinator Mary Bolling. “Our goal is to be able to hand Gateway a check for $250,000. All proceeds will stay in the Midwest. Ticket buyers have a one-in-285 chance of winning one of the seven prizes. Those are pretty good odds.”

Odds are the remaining raffle tickets will be snapped up this summer by gawkers at the home-du-jour’s front door. The 6,500-square foot four bedroom, 5.5 bathroom, old world renaissance-style dwelling is a Michelle Wie-like tee shot and good roll from The National’s main clubhouse. It also stops traffic with a four-car garage and golf-cart storage facility. Bolling Homes was the builder. Stephen Jay Cantrell & Associates of Parkville was the architect.
The front entry is telltale of the design elements to come. It features a custom slate floor, 20-foot ceiling and custom chandelier. Eyes are immediately drawn to a rounded interior wall attractively set apart by hand-painted artwork flowing between two columns.
To the immediate right of the entry are two separate spiral staircases. A wall-hugging curved stairway with walnut steps and wrought iron railing leads guests up to the second floor. Staggered windows follow the curvature of the walkway. Hand-painted murals are so authentic they appear as real stone to unsuspecting viewers. The second sweeping staircase leads down the lower-level entertainment area.
Several steps beyond the entry is the great room and its 11-foot ceiling and crown molding accented with indirect lighting. This carpeted space features a pre-cast stone fireplace and east-facing wall of windows shooting straight out at The National’s practice facility.
The combination kitchen and hearthroom was designed as the family-gathering location. This free-flowing space is elegantly equipped with walnut hardwood flooring. The kitchen’s focal point is a J-shaped center island topped by a squared-tin inlay roof. Anaglyphic wall coverings and faux finishes in shades of gold and tan bring out the colors of the maple cabinets and granite countertops. All appliances (three ovens, two dishwashers and a gas cooktop) are Dacor stainless steel.
Spilling off the kitchen is a circular breakfast nook featuring a domed ceiling with its own handcrafted mural and chandelier. The hearthroom also sports a wall of windows peering out at the practice facility and a walkout to the wrap-around backyard deck. There’s also a fireplace, built-in 50-inch big screen television and back staircase to the second floor.
The upstairs master bedroom is privacy-friendly with its elevated double-door entry. Almost its own entertainment area, the sleep chamber features a wet bar with a small refrigerator and an award-winning three-tiered lighted and vaulted ceiling. There’s also a walkout veranda overlooking year-round greenery.
The inviting master bathroom shines with his-and-her sinks and closets, whirlpool tub and extra-large glass-front shower with multiple sprayer heads. Other standout components include black sink basins; a black toilet and an easily missed laundry room two steps down from the closet area.
“Every bedroom has a walk-in closet and private bath,” adds Bolling. “The house also was constructed with a multi-faceted sound system.”
The lower, or terrace level, is a designated entertainment Mecca highlighted by mauve and black hues. Its amenities include a front-projection home theater system beaming television, movies and video games into a 110-inch screen. Viewers enjoy the nearby luxury of a corner bar stocked with a refrigerator, dishwasher, icemaker and oven. Other notable perks include a cedar-lined wine cellar adjacent to the bar and an exercise and dance studio lined with mirrors.
